TWISTED SISTER Frontman Fights Premature Birth

May 19, 2004

TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider has been named the Grand Marshall and Chairperson of the March of Dimes ride, which is scheduled to take place Sunday, May 23 in Westbury, New York.

Over 1,000 motorcycle enthusiasts will join Dee Snider to help the March of Dimes raise money to pursue its mission and fight premature birth.

Commented Dee: "Premature birth is a bigger problem than most people think. I know — two of my four children were born prematurely. By riding in this event, you will not only support the March of Dimes efforts to raise awareness of the problem and support research to save babies right here on Long Island and across the nation, but you will have an amazing time hanging and riding with a really great bunch of people."

Dee Snider's 2nd annual Bikers for Babies Ride begins at the 1-800-FLOWERS building, which is located at 1600 Stewart Avenue in Westbury. Registration begins at 9:00am with the official start of the Ride at 11:00am.

The route is as follows: Meadowbrook Parkway South to Ocean Parkway East; Ocean Parkway East to Robert Moses Causeway North; Robert Moses Causeway North to Sunrise Highway East; Sunrise Highway East to North Ocean Avenue. The Ride will culminate at Bald Hill - the Brookhaven Amphitheatre – Parking Lot C in Farmingville.

This event is open to the public and all motorcycle enthusiasts are welcome to join in the Ride. A small registration fee of $25.00 entitles the rider to participate in the Ride, lunch, entertainment and a commemorative pin. Riders are encouraged to get additional donations from family members, friends and colleagues. There are prize incentives for raising additional funds. The Ride is sanctioned by the American Motorcycle Association. Interested riders can sign up by contacting the March of Dimes – Long Island Division at (516) 496-8198.

Dee Snider's 2nd annual Bikers for Babies Ride is made possible, in large part, by its supporters and sponsors: Lighthouse Harley Davidson, Full Throttle Magazine, WBAB/WBLI Radio, Geico Direct, Rockabilly Barber, Garden City Pizzeria, The Blue Knights and Adams & Cross.

Premature birth affects more than 460,000 babies in the United States every year, and the rates are rising, and it is the leading cause of death in the first month of life. That is why the March of Dimes launched a five-year, $75 million dollar campaign to educate women to the signs and symptoms of premature birth, and to raise the funds to conduct much needed research into the causes of prematurity. The goal of the campaign is to reduce the rate of premature birth 15 % by 2007.
